The ARNA is a brief, actuarial risk tool used to screen youth who have been charged with an offense for their level of risk for recidivism. The ARNA is a strong and feasible option for use in diversion decisions. It contains mostly dynamic risk factor items that lend themselves to measuring changes in risk and potential needs for case planning.
NYSAP helps agencies adapt and validate the ARNA for their jurisdiction and provides staff training on the tool. We test trainees’ proficiency on the ARNA by providing, scoring, and providing feedback on post-training practice case vignettes.
