Structured Trauma-Related Experiences & Symptoms Screener (STRESS)
Grasso, Ford, Felton, & Reid-Quinones—2019
The Structured Trauma-Related Experiences & Symptoms Screener (STRESS) is a comprehensive screening tool that provides professionals with broader information about lifetime traumatic event exposure and other adversities, active trauma reactions, and functional impairment (e.g., impact of trauma-related difficulties on day-to-day functioning).
Studies have supported the STRESS as a reliable and valid comprehensive screening tool that provides staff with more detailed information about trauma reaction symptom severity that can be used to guide further mental health assessment and case management decisions.
Our STRESS training helps staff develop an in-depth understanding of:
how different trauma reactions impact youth emotional and behavioral functioning;
how to introduce, administer, score, and provide feedback based on the STRESS screening results; and
how to integrate STRESS screening results into broader assessments/case planning.
Through active practice using multiple case examples, our STRESS training prepares trainees to competently and confidently utilize the STRESS in their behavioral (mental) health screening process across a range of juvenile justice settings.
